Welcome in the Syriders community! Your NAV XL is an eXtra Light instrument with the most recent technologies. With it, you’ll be able you to improve yourself and track your performances. You will also be able to enjoy a unique and highly detailed online flight book. Your practice of paragliding is going to take a new dimension with the NAV XL!

As a member of the community, you will become to a key player in the evolution and continuous improvement of our flight instruments. The range of innovative sensors included in the NAV XL allows the development of future features… We encourage you to share with us your suggestions for your greater satisfaction.

# I.	Setup the SYS PC Tool

You can setup the SYS PC Tool: [on your computer](/xl-english-manual/i.-setup-the-sys-pc-tool/using-a-computer) or [on Smartphone](/xl-english-manual/i.-setup-the-sys-pc-tool/using-a-smartphone).


# Using a computer:

1\.   <mark style="color:red;">**Download the lastest version of the SYS PC Tool**</mark> by checking the following webpage: <http://www.syride.com/en/logiciel>&#x20;

2. Follow the instructions to install it on your computer.
3. Once installed, an icon shows in the task bar. It detects when your instrument is connected.&#x20;

4. The software will automatically start with your operating system (Windows only).&#x20;

# Using a Smartphone:

1. Please make sure the latest version of the firmware is installed in your instrument.

# II.       Place the instrument

1. Syride suggests to place your instrument on the risers. 2 velcros ables you to place it on any existing riser. Take care not to « lock » your rope or pulley accelerator. This position ables you to manipulate the instrument while flying without releasing the brakes.

2. Velcros also allow placing the instrument on a cockpit, on thigh (with extension) or on the wrist.

3. You should secure your instrument by using the strap provided for this purpose.

Note regarding the velcros:

\- The Nav XL is provided by default with "Xlight" velcros. Lighter and thinner, they allow to save 10% on the total weight of the instrument. Nevertheless, they wear out faster than traditional velcros. It is recommended to change them regularly as soon as the grip becomes weaker. \- Replacing velcros does not affect the warranty of the instrument as long as the case is not opened. Change them one by one in order not to open the case by accident.

\- If you use the instrument on the risers only, you can reverse the velcro so that the soft side faces the riser. Simply unscrew the screws, reverse the direction of the velcro and screw again. Be careful not to over tighten the screws to avoid screwing up the thread!

Just remind that if you reverse the direction of the velcro, it will not be possible to put it on a cockpit.


# III.       Charging the battery

1. Simply connect your instrument with the USB-C cable to a computer. A red led shows indicates the charging of the device. The led turns blue when the device is fully charged.

2. You can check the percentage of charge on the screen. To complete, a charge requires about 2 hours.

3. Disconnect USB to stop the charge. Your instrument has a Li-ion battery, which has no memory effect.

You can charge your instrument while using it, for example in flight. You have to select “Charger Mode” when plugging the charge cable so the track recording doesn’t stop.

When starting the device, allow a dozen seconds for the battery level to stabilize.

# VI.       Flight screens

1. Screens 1 to 4 allow you to display the flight information you want.                                                          If you're not getting enough GPS signal, a NO GPS indication will appear.

2. Pressing the main button will turn OFF and ON the sound of the vario. This is useful when you need to concentrate on a transition or a landing.

Pressing on the main button allows you to record your position and obtain the GPS coordinates (useful for recovery!), the distance, the vertical gain, the time that has elapsed since the pointing of this point as well as an indication of the route to follow to return to this position.                                                       This is also often used by PPG to quickly save their take-off position.

4. Screen #5 (MAP screen) displays on the whole LCD area. You can see :

* Your current position and heading on the middle of the screen
* The topography grayscaled
* Airspaces (if previously uploaded to the instrument)
* Your GPS track for the last 10 minutes
* Waypoints and optimized navigation route (if a route is loaded)

# VII.       Configure your device

1. Press the center button to start the instrument and display the main flight screen.
2. Go to screen D using the keyboard arrows and press the center button (screen number is displayed in the top right).

3. The first screen of the settings menu allows you to obtain the system information. A long press on the central button on this page allows you to manually start recording the track
4. On the next screen you can adjust the sound volume by pressing the center button.

5. The next 2 screens allow you to set the thresholds for the vario's climb and descent sounds. The threshold can be changed by pressing the center button.
6. The next screen allows you to activate/deactivate the zero-ing function (Thermal Sniffer). The instrument will emit a specific beep in flight when you are in a no-climb (<0.1m/s) and no-descent (>-0.2m/s) zone. This audible information may indicate that you are near a thermal or at the beginning of a thermal cycle.
7. &#x20;The next screen allows you to activate or deactivate the audible and visual airspace alert.
8. The next screen lets you turn on the low power mode of the GPS chip. Your instrument will have a longer battery life, but the GPS track accuracy will be slightly lower. See "XVII. Practical Tips for Use" for more information

Connect your device to a computer with the SYS PC Tool to access to advanced setup page.\
You can:

* Change the airspace « pre-violation » warnings (HAS for Horizontal distance to AirSpace, VAS for Vertical distance to AirSpace).
* Adjust the security alarm based on the G-meter.
* Activate the instant vario.
* Change your device language…

For this :

1\)      Turn-on the instrument and connect it to your computer.

2\)      From SYS PC Tool, click on “*configure my instrument” icon.*

3\)      Change whatever you want.

4\)      Click on *Send parameters.*

# Using a computer:

With your NAV XL, you can fully customize screens 1 to 4, as well your vario sound!

2\)      Customize your screen by selecting an item with is font size and units, and then drag and drop it to the screen.

3\)      Download the config file to your computer.

4\)      Turn-on your instrument, and connect it to your computer.

5\)      On SYS PC Tool, click on *“Send a file to my Instrument” icon.*

6\)      Select the config file you just downloaded before and disconnect your instrument, done.

# X.	   Locate airspaces

To avoid an airspace violation, you can upload a database of airspaces with an OpenAir file format to your instrument.                                                                                                                                                        Here are some tips regarding airspaces:

* Airspaces are regularly modified (about once per month). We recommend you to check the **version of file** you are using and keep updated.
* Knowledge of **aeronautic rules** as well as **preparing your flight** are essential for your safety, and for an easy understanding of what your instrument is showing.
* **Temporary forbidden areas** can exist. They are signaled through a NOTAM (Notice To Airmen) or Sup AIP. They’re usually available on your government website.
* Each country has its own rules, especially for **VFR** flights. Take note of local rules before taking-off.
* Even if your instrument is able to handle thousands of airspaces, we highly recommend you to fine-tune your OpenAir file. Editing the file can be done with any raw text reader software. Fine-tuning the openair file can increase your instrument’s autonomy, and can ease the reading of the MAP screen.

In order to upload/update airspaces to your Nav XL:

1\)      Go to the webpage <https://www.syride.com/en/airspace>

2\)      Syride's online tool provides airspace databases in Open Air format by country. Download the file you want to your computer.

3\)      Turn on and plug your Nav into the USB port of your computer

4\)      On the SYS PC Tool, click on the icon « *send a file to my instrument* »

5\)      Select the OpenAir file you previously downloaded.

To locate airspaces, you have 2 options :

* &#x20;The MAP screen will show you the airspace borders
* Indicators are available on the SSCTool, like name, horizontal and vertical distance to the nearest airspace.

There are 2 visual warnings with a siren that informs you are near an airspace:

The Airspace name flashes white at the top when you are near a zone (as defined by the HAS and VAS values in the advanced settings).

To create a navigation route, the easiest way is to use our online « Route maker » tool. Simple, quick and efficient, it ables you to build a route in a few secondes.

To build a route with the « Route maker » :

1\)      Go to <http://www.syride.com/en/route>

2\)      Build your route in a few clicks and then download it to your computer.

3\)      Turn-on your Nav and connect it to your computer.

4\)      On the SYS PC Tool, click the icon « *Send a file to my instrument ».*

5\)      Select the route file you’ve downloaded before.

6\)      To activate the route in your instrument, go on the the Navigation menu in the Nav, then « Load a route ».

The route will show on the MAP screen. Think about adding the indicators you wish to use (e.g. *Waypoint information*) to your screen configuration (cf **IX. Customize your screens**).

7\)      To skip a waypoint without reaching it, you can push the central button until the sound signal.


# Using a Smartphone:

You can use the Syride app to create or modify a route. Several options allow you to send a route in your instrument (manual creation, from a QR Code, from a file...).

You can also easily share a route that is in your instrument with another pilot using the share function (by sending the file or displaying the QR code...).


# XII.      Bluetooth features

The Nav XL allows the pairing of a Bluetooth device.

Case 1 : I want to be connected to the Syride app (live tracking, receive weather reports, automatically send my track...)

Case 2 : I want to be connected to a third party application (for example XCTrack) to forward the GPS and barometric data of the Nav XL sensors.

Here's how to pair your instrument:

1. Go to the Bluetooth menu of the instrument (page "B"). This page can display 3 different statuses depending on whether the Bluetooth is inactive / active but not paired / active and paired with a device.

2. If you wish to pair a device, click on the central button to access the Bluetooth menu. Select the pairing mode you wish to use (third party app or Syride app) and click on the central button. If you are already paired with another device, it will be disconnected.

3. Your Nav XL is now ready to be paired from the application menu.

\-   In the list of nearby Bluetooth devices, select your Nav XL.

**Connecting to XCTrack**

\-   Wait until you have GPS reception on your Nav XL

\-   Put your Nav XL in 'Other App' pairing mode (see previous page)

\-   Launch XCtrack and go to "Preferences" in the app

\-   Select "Connection and sensors", then click on "external sensor" and choose "Bluetooth sensor".

\-   In the list of nearby Bluetooth devices, select your Nav XL

\-   To use the GPS data from the Nav XL, don't forget to check "Use external GPS"

\-   If the connection remains "pending" on the NAV XL, restart XCTrack.

**Connecting to FlySkyHy**

\-   Wait until you have GPS reception on your Nav XL

\-   Put your Nav XL in 'Other App' pairing mode (see previous page)

\-   - Launch the FlySkyHy application on your iPhone and drag from the bottom to the top to display the application menu

\-   When it appears, click on "Settings" then "Vario". Select "Other Bluetooth vario".

\-   To use the GPS data from the Nav XL, don't forget to check "Use GPS from device".

About the Bluetooth features :

\-         **Do not pair the instrument with the Bluetooth menu of your phone. Pairing should be done from the application you intend to use (Syride App, XCtrack, Flyskyhy…). If you have difficulties to pair, make sure the Nav XL hasn’t been paired in the Bluetooth menu of your phone (and if so, please delete the pairing).**

**-         Make sure to grant all required right the the app you want to use. Please exclude the app from the any Energy economy mode or similar.**

**-         If you have issues running the app in the background with some Android phones, please check this page for best settings to avoid some manufacturers OS behaviors:** <https://dontkillmyapp.com/>

\-         Pairing is only needed once or after you’ve changed Bluetooth mode. Then your instrument will automatically connect to the last connected device.

\-         Livetracking, weather reports and automatic flight upload can only work if the instrument is connected to the Syride app on your phone. Your phone must also be able to exchange data with the Syride server, which means there must be a mobile network.

\-         Private live can be configured from the application or from the instrument, it is only visible to users who have a link with a key.                                                                                                                           This link is visible on the "My account" page of the Syride.com site: <https://www.syride.com/en/moncompte>

\-         Live only activates when the track is being recorded. To use the live tracking without being in flight, force the recording (see "VII. Configure options").

\-         To display wind reports, you must configure your screens and add the weather station items you need (see "IX. Customizing the display and the vario").


# XIII.      Display and delete a flight track

1. Press the center button when you are on screen C allows to check the data of flight in the instrument memory, delete a track and mark a flight as “not transferred yet” should you need to transfer it again.

2. Each flight track has its own page. Flight tracks are kept in memory even after they have been uploaded to the online flightbook. When the memory is full, the oldest track is automatically deleted.
3. A click on the center menu displays a menu which allows to delete a flight, or mark the flight as “Not uploaded” in order to have it uploaded again.
4. Press « back » to go back to the flight pages.

# XIV.	Warning and reset

The **battery is <3%**. The Nav XL must be recharged. If you are in flight the instrument will record your track and turn off automatically.

To **force restart the instrument**, insert a paperclip into the hole provided for this purpose at the back of the case. This action does not erase memory or your settings. It only forces the instrument to restart.

A **factory restore** is possible from the SYS'PC TOOL (menu parameters / troubleshooting / Factory restore). The instrument will be completely reset to new. All of your flights and settings will be erased.

# XV.	     Uploading your flights

# Using a computer

1. Be sure you’ve installed the SYS-PC-Tool software on your computer                                                        (<https://www.syride.com/en/software>)

2. Turn on and connect your instrument with the USB cable.
3. Click on ***Account configuration*** icon.

4. The IGC/GPX and KML files are systematically duplicated on your computer.

5. Press the “**Download recorded flights**” icon, and your flights will be sent from the instrument to your computer and the online flight book. You can have access to the files on your computer by clicking on File/open local directory.

6. You can modify your flight information (e.g. name, used glide, take off site and the type of flight) by clicking on the red pen and validate your modification with the green arrow. You can also add pictures and videos links to your flight track.
7. To watch your track, click on the picture.
8. You can make your flight invisible for the Syride community by clicking on the eye icon on the top right. It will stay on your profile but the Syride users won’t be able to see it.

9. You can track your personal evolution on the flight page through time. You can also compare your stats and performances to the other riders.

# Using a Smartphone:

Uploading a flight can be done automatically when you land if, in the preferences of the app, you have checked "yes" to "Send tracks automatically", if your instrument is still connected by Bluetooth with your phone when you land (and during the upload), and if you have a decent network coverage during this time.

It is also possible to manually send / share a track of your choice from the app:

About the flight upload in Bluetooth:

\- If you have a flight log on other platforms (XContest, DHV-XC...), our servers can automatically upload a copy of your flight. Configure your profiles on this page: <https://www.syride.com/en/moncompte>

\- The transfer time in Bluetooth Low Energy can be quite long. If a manual transfer takes more than 3 minutes, you will be notified with a confirmation popup to let you know about it.

\- The automatic transfer at the end of the flight will be done systematically if the transfer time is less than 10 minutes. Should the transfer duration be longer, a confirmation popup wouldl be displayed only if your application is displayed in the foreground on your phone. If it is in the background, or phone in standby, the transfer will not be executed. You will have to send your flight manually then.


# XVI.	Parameters

Here is a list of parameters preprogrammed in your instrument in order to improve its use and its operating time:

·        Flight tracks <mark style="color:red;">**less than a minute**</mark> long will be automatically deleted by the SYS PC Tool

·        When flying, your instrument will automatically stop recording the flight if **neither a ground speed or a vario** is detected, unless you’ve manually forced the recording see chapter V.

·        Your instrument will automatically turn OFF if a <mark style="color:red;">**20 minutes**</mark> inactivity is detected, unless you’re flying.

·        **Time and date** are set up thanks to the GPS (to get the GMT time) and your computer (to apply the timezone). In order to correctly set the time, connect your device to Sys’PC tool.


# XVII.	Suggestion of use

* <mark style="color:red;">**We suggest you turn on your Nav XL while preparing your gear in order to make sure you get the GPS fix before taking-off.**</mark>
* Use the lanyard to <mark style="color:red;">**secure**</mark> your instrument while flying.
* Electromagnetic perturbations from VHF antennas can disturb GPS signal (Altitude/Speed/Glide ratio…)
* If the SYS'NAV is very hot and you fly in very cold air, fog can appear on the screen. It will dissipate within minutes.
* When plugging your Nav XL on a USB charger, it will charge even if it is turned off.
* The lifespan of your battery will depend on the conditions of use and its storage environment. Do not leave it without charge for a long time and do not leave your instrument in the trunk of your car in direct sunlight (Your wing won’t like it either).
* If the battery is too hot (instrument left in the sun in summer), the instrument will not allow you to start it. So wait for your Nav XL to cool down before trying again
* Charging can be done on any USB charger (computer, phone charger, solar panel…) provided that it respects the USB standards (avoid cheap chargers).

**Operating time and settings:**                                                                                                                                        The operating time very related to your settings. Here is a table allowing you to estimate the operating time of your instrument according to its settings:&#x20;

Bluetooth activation has very little impact on the operating time.


# Important Warnings and Safety Instructions

Free flight and ultralight flying are potentially dangerous activities that can lead to serious injury, paralysis, or even death. When flying, you must be fully aware of the risks involved.                             Read and follow these safety instructions carefully before using your Syride instrument. Failure to do so may compromise your safety and nullify your right to any claim in case of an incident.

**Proper Use and Responsibilities**:&#x20;

Syride instruments are intended for use in free flight and ultralight flying. Any other use is the responsibility of the user, exempting Syride, its distributors, or resellers from any liability, claim, or demand for compensation for misuse. All pilots must hold the required license or certification in their country and have adequate liability insurance to fly. Ensure that you have the skills and knowledge necessary to fly and use the instrument. Only fly if you are physically and mentally fit. The instrument should only be used by trained and competent individuals in compliance with local and national regulations.

**Preparation and Maintenance**:&#x20;

Check the proper functioning of the instrument before each flight. Never fly with damaged or improperly positioned equipment. Ensure that the weather conditions are appropriate for your level of piloting. NEVER fly in dangerous conditions (e.g., strong winds, storms, fog, rain, snow, turbulent conditions, or clouds). Use only approved equipment (wing, harness, and rescue parachute) and appropriate protective gear (e.g., helmet...).

Make sure the product is securely positioned before takeoff to avoid loss during flight. Syride cannot be held responsible for the loss and consequences of the instrument falling to the ground. Syride is also not responsible for the instrument's theft or damage during use (e.g., water exposure, shocks, crushing during transport, etc.).

**In-Flight Safety and Responsibilities**:&#x20;

Do not use the instrument for acrobatic flights, flights without visibility, or night flights. Always pay close attention to the weather before takeoff, your surroundings, and the terrain you will be flying over to avoid collisions. If in doubt, do not fly, and always allow a large safety margin in your decisions. In the event of a critical malfunction of the instrument, shorten the flight as soon as possible or, if necessary, separate from the instrument. The instrument may display false information, shut down, or malfunction at any time. It is essential that the flight can continue safely without using the information provided by the instrument. The information provided by the instrument should be considered as a mere aid to flying and should not be crucial to its smooth operation or safety. Incorrect or inaccurate data may result either from the system's inherent imprecision or sensor inaccuracies (e.g., GPS accuracy, pressure sensor, or terrain database data) or from software bugs. The ability to fly safely without relying on this information is essential, highlighting the importance of not considering this equipment as infallible or the sole source of navigation and decision-making. It is the pilot's responsibility to prepare the flight with information from official sources. For example, the airspace alert function is only a piloting aid, and the pilot remains solely responsible in case of violations.

We recommend using two instruments of different designs in flight to benefit from information redundancy.

The instrument should be stored in an environment that is neither too hot nor too cold. # Foreword

Welcome in the community of Syriders! Your Alti is an extra light instrument with the most recent technologies which will able you to improve yourself and monitor your improvements. You will also be able to build a unique and highly detailed online flight book. Your practice of paragliding is going to take a new dimension with the Alti!

# I.	Setup the SYS PC Tool

2. Follow the instructions to install it on your computer.

2. Once installed, an icon shows in the task bar. It detects when your instrument is connected.

4. The software will automatically start with your operating system.


# II.	Place the instrument

1\.        Syride suggests to place your instrument on the risers. 2 velcros ables you to place it on any existing riser. Take care not to « lock » your rope or pulley accelerator.This position ables you to manipulate the instrument while flying without releasing the brakes.                                                           <mark style="color:red;">**We recommend you to insert a protection between the velcro and your riser in order to avoid the abrasion of it.**</mark>

2. Velcros also allow placing the instrument on a cockpit in thigh (with extension) or on the wrist.

3. You can secure your instrument by using the strap provided for this purpose.

# III.	Recharging the battery

1. Simply connect your instrument’s USB to a computer.

2. Your instrument will display “Charging…” and the percentage of charge. To complete, a charge requires 2 hours.

3. Disconnect USB to stop the charge. Your instrument has a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect.

4. When your instrument will start, the battery icon needs 10 seconds to be stable.

# IV.   Configure your device

1. Push the central button to start your instrument.

2. Go to screen #5 with left and right buttons and confirm by clicking on central button. The number of the screen is displayed on the top right of it.

3. The first screen shows some informations about your instrument.

6. You can turn ON or OFF the backlight of your instrument on the next screen.                            **Warning : backlight reduces the instrument’s autonomy**.&#x20;

# V.	Advanced configuration

Connect your device to a computer with the SYS PC Tool, you get access to advanced setup. You can :

\-         Adjust the security alarm based on the G-meter.

\-         Modify the filtering time (integration) of the vario.

\-         Choose the units and the language of your instrument.

\-         Change any setup that is changeable inside the instrument.

# VI.	Customize your screens

**With your Alti, you can fully customize screens 1 and 2!**

1\)      Go to: <http://www.syride.com/en/ssctool/Alti>

2\)      Customize your screen by selecting an item with its size and unit, and then drag and drop it to the screen.

3\)      Download the config file to your computer.

4\)      Turn-on your instrument, and connect it to your computer with USB.

5\)      On SYS PC Tool, click on ***“Send a file to my instrument”** icon.*

6\)      Select the config file you just downloaded before and disconnect your instrument, done.

# VII.   Screens when flying

1. Screens #1 and #2 shows the informations you previously choosed.

2. Pressing the central button will turn OFF and ON the sound of the vario. This is usefull when you need to concentrate on a transition or when landing.

1\.       Screen #3 displays global informations concerning your flight. From top to bottom, these informations are:

o    Top altitude

o    Min altitude

o    Top vario

# VIII.	Flight detection and altitude setup

1. The plane icon on the top left of the screen indicates wether a flight is beeing recorded or not. The vario automatically detects when you’re flying, based on the vario.

2. Pressing the central button on screen #3 ables you to setup the current altitude. Press left and right to select the digit you want to change, and central button to change it.                                 Select the unit digit and press the central button to validate the altitude.

# IX.	Display and delete a flight

1. Go to screen #4 and press the central button to enter the flights list.

2. You will see here every recorded flights, with some informations about this flight.

3. To delete a flight, press the central button and confirm your action when you’re asked to.

# X.	Warnings and reset

If this happens, be sure the instrument’s memory is not full, and check the battery is charged enough.

To protect from flights corruption, your instrument will automatically stop recording the flight if the battery is too low, or if memory is almost full. This is indicated when the plane icon on the top left of the screen is blinking with a cross over it.

If the G-Meter exceeds the value selected in advanced parameters (2,5 g is the default value), a highly noisy sound will activate **(even if the sound is turned-off)**.

If ever your instrument would be stuck (unresponsive to buttons), plug the device to your computer with the USB cable and press the reset button with a needle in the hole on the back of the instrument (keeping the USB plugged).

# XI.     Transfer your flights

1\.        Be sure you’ve installed the SYS-PC-Tool software on your computer                                                     (<https://www.syride.com/en/software>)

2. Turn on and connect your instrument with the USB cable.
3. Click on ***Account configuration*** icon.

4. To use the advanced flight analyzer on syride.com, you must enter your email and  password of your Syride account  (create one on <http://www.syride.com>)\
   Make sure "Use the advanced logbook from Syride.com” is selected to upload your flights and click “OK”

5. Press the **“Download recorded flights”** icon and your flights will be sent from the instrument to your computer and the online flight book. You can have access to the files on your computer by clicking on File/open local directory.

6. Go to your profile on the Syride website to visualize your flight (altitude, vario, gmeter, flight time, gain, ...)

7. If you want, you can edit some informations about your flight (flight name, wing, flight type, etc..) in order to generate detailed statistics.

# XII.     Parameters

Here is a list of parameters preprogrammed in your instrument in order to improve its use and autonomy:

* Your instrument will turn off if **idle** -without pressing any keys- for more <mark style="color:red;">**20 minutes.**</mark>
* The Alti is capable of tracking up to <mark style="color:red;">**150h of flight**</mark>. The maximum number of flights is 30. Then you must transfer or delete flights to record a new one. Note that flights data are automatically deleted from the device upon transfer onto the website.
* **Autonomy** exceeds 100h of flight.
* **The** **date and time** are synchronized with the date and time of your computer.
* Flights <mark style="color:red;">**less than a minute**</mark> will be automatically deleted.
* When recording a flight, if the vario is **around 0 for more than 2 minutes**, then the instrument stops recording.
* By default, the G-force alarm is set to <mark style="color:red;">**+2,5 g**</mark> and is activated.


# XIII.	Suggestion of use

* Use the strap to <mark style="color:red;">**secure**</mark> your instrument while flying.
* If the Alti is very hot and you fly in very cold air, **fog** can appear on the screen. It will dissipate within minutes.
* Only use the **backlight** if required. Otherwise the autonomy will decrease significantly.
* **A factory reset** from SYS PC Tool (Settings icon ![](/files/wZTHoxZlbYYKXAygSAPB) Repair) allows you to get your instrument back to default state (every recorded flight will be deleted).
* When you connect your instrument to a USB charger, the battery will start charging, even if the instrument is turned-off.

# Important Warnings and Safety Instructions

# V.	Advanced configuration

Connect your device to a computer with the SYS PC Tool, you get access to advanced setup. You can :

·        Adjust the security alarm based on the G-meter.

·        Modify the filtering time (integration) of the vario.

·        Choose the units and the language of your instrument.

·        Change any setup that is changeable inside the instrument.

# VI.	Customize your screens and vario sound

**With your instrument, you can fully customize screens 1 and 2, as well as your vario sound!**

&#x20;To customize your screen (tutorial video <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3lfZWiS13M>) :

1\)      Go to: <http://www.syride.com/en/ssctool/GPS>

2\)      Customize your screen by selecting an item with is font size and units, and then drag and drop it to the screen.

3\)      Download the config file to your computer.

4\)      Turn-on your instrument, and connect it to your computer.

5\)      On SYS PC Tool, click on *“Send a file to my Instrument” icon.*

6\)      Select the config file you just downloaded before and disconnect your instrument, done.

# VII.	Height above ground

The instrument is able to tell you how high from the ground you are thanks to topography data recorded by the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission realized in 2000 by Endeavour space shuttle (see <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuttle_Radar_Topography_Mission>).

&#x20;To send topography data into your instrument:

&#x20;1\)      You must go to our dedicated webpage: <https://www.syride.com/en/topography>

2\)      Then move the red rectangle to your selected fly area, and download the data.

3\)      Turn on and connect your instrument with the USB cable.

4\)      Then go in the SYS PC Tool, and click on the **“Send a file to my instrument”** icon, and select the file you previously downloaded.

5\)      Wait until the end ot the file upload and restart your instrument.

&#x20;Caution, height above the ground has a precision of ±20m, plus the GPS precision (a few meters).&#x20;

# VIII.	Screens when flying

1. Screens #1 and #2 shows the informations you previously choosed.

2. Pressing the central button will turn OFF and ON the sound of the vario. This is usefull when you need to concentrate on a transition or when landing.&#x20;

3. Press the central button on the screen #3 in order to save your current GPS position. Screen #3 then shows the distance and gain from this point.&#x20;

# IX.	Information about GPS state

<mark style="color:red;">**The GPS fix after a long period of inactivity, or after an important change in geographical position, can take up to 10 minutes. It is recommended to be outdoor in order to ease the first GPS fix.           We suggest you to turn ON your instrument a few minutes before taking-off until GPS fixes.**</mark>

2. The plane icon on the top left of the screen indicates wether a flight is beeing recorded or not. The vario automatically detects when you’re flying.&#x20;

# X.     Display and delete a flight

1. Go to screen #4 and press the central button to enter the flights list.&#x20;

2. You will see here every recorded flights, with some informations about this flight.&#x20;

3. To delete a flight, press the central button and confirm your action when you’re asked to.

4. Come back to the main flight screens by pushing on “BACK”.


# XI.	Warnings and reset

If this happens, be sure the instrument’s memory is not full and check the battery is charged enough.&#x20;

To protect from flights corruption, your instrument will automatically stop recording the flight if the battery is too low or if memory is almost full. This is indicated when the plane icon on the top left of the screen is blinking with a cross over it.&#x20;

If the G-Meter exceeds the value selected in advanced parameters (2,5 g is the default value), a highly noisy sound will activate **(even if the sound is turned-off)**.&#x20;

If ever your instrument would be stuck (unresponsive to buttons), plug the device to your computer with the USB cable and press the reset button with a needle in the hole on the back of the instrument (keeping the USB plugged).&#x20;

# XII.	Transfer your flights

1. Be sure you’ve installed the SYS-PC-Tool software on your computer                                                         (<https://www.syride.com/en/software>)&#x20;

2. Turn on and connect your instrument with the USB cable.
3. Click on ***Account configuration*** icon.

4. The IGC/GPX and KML files are systematically duplicated on your computer.                                      To use the advanced flight analyzer on syride.com, you must enter your email and  password of your Syride account  (create one on <http://www.syride.com>.                                                                                  Make sure "Use the advanced logbook from Syride.com” is selected to upload your flights and click “OK”.

5. Press the **“Download recorded flights”** icon, and your flights will be sent from the instrument to your computer and the online flight book. You can have access to the files on your computer by clicking on File/open local directory.&#x20;

6. You can modify your flight information (e.g. name, used glide, take off site and the type of flight) by clicking on the red pen and validate your modification with the green arrow.&#x20;

7. To watch your track, click on the picture.&#x20;

8. You can make your flight invisible for the Syride community by clicking on the eye icon on the top right. It will stay on your profile but the Syride users won’t be able to see it.
9. You can look at your personal evolution on the flight page through location and time. You can also compare your stats and performances to the other riders.&#x20;

# XIII.     Parameters

Here is a list of parameters preprogrammed in your instrument in order to improve its use and autonomy:

* Flights <mark style="color:red;">**less than a minute**</mark> will be automatically deleted by the SYS PC Tool.
* When flying, your instrument will automatically stop recording the flight if **neither a ground speed nor a vario** is detected.
* Your instrument will automatically turn OFF if a <mark style="color:red;">**20 minutes**</mark> inactivity is detected, unless you’re flying.
* The instrument is able to record <mark style="color:red;">**75h**</mark> of flights.
* This instrument is able to record <mark style="color:red;">**30 flights**</mark>.
* G-Meter alarm is set to <mark style="color:red;">**2,5 g**</mark> by default.
* Time and date setup is thanks to the GPS (to get the GMT) and your computer (to apply the timezone).


# XIV.	Suggestion of use

* <mark style="color:red;">**We suggest you to turn-on your instrument while preparing your flight in order to be sure you get the GPS fix before starting your flight.**</mark>
* Use the strap to <mark style="color:red;">**secure**</mark> your instrument while flying.
* Electromagnetic perturbations from antennas can disturb GPS signal
* If the instrument is very hot and you fly in very cold air, fog can appear on the screen. It will dissipate within minutes.
* Only use the backlight if required. Otherwise the autonomy will decrease significantly.
* A Factory Reset from SYS PC Tool (Settings icon à Repair button) allows you to get your instrument back to default state (every recorded flight will be deleted).
* When you connect your instrument to a USB charger, the battery will start charging, even if the instrument is turned-off.


# Important Warnings and Safety Instructions

Free flight and ultralight flying are potentially dangerous activities that can lead to serious injury, paralysis, or even death. When flying, you must be fully aware of the risks involved.

Read and follow these safety instructions carefully before using your Syride instrument. Failure to do so may compromise your safety and nullify your right to any claim in case of an incident.

Proper Use and Responsibilities: Syride instruments are intended for use in free flight and ultralight flying. Any other use is the responsibility of the user, exempting Syride, its distributors, or resellers from any liability, claim, or demand for compensation for misuse. All pilots must hold the required license or certification in their country and have adequate liability insurance to fly. Ensure that you have the skills and knowledge necessary to fly and use the instrument. Only fly if you are physically and mentally fit. The instrument should only be used by trained and competent individuals in compliance with local and national regulations.

**Preparation and Maintenance**:&#x20;

Check the proper functioning of the instrument before each flight. Never fly with damaged or improperly positioned equipment. Ensure that the weather conditions are appropriate for your level of piloting. NEVER fly in dangerous conditions (e.g., strong winds, storms, fog, rain, snow, turbulent conditions, or clouds). Use only approved equipment (wing, harness, and rescue parachute) and appropriate protective gear (e.g., helmet...).

Make sure the product is securely positioned before takeoff to avoid loss during flight. Syride cannot be held responsible for the loss and consequences of the instrument falling to the ground. Syride is also not responsible for the instrument's theft or damage during use (e.g., water exposure, shocks, crushing during transport, etc.).

**In-Flight Safety and Responsibilities**:&#x20;

Do not use the instrument for acrobatic flights, flights without visibility, or night flights. Always pay close attention to the weather before takeoff, your surroundings, and the terrain you will be flying over to avoid collisions. If in doubt, do not fly, and always allow a large safety margin in your decisions. In the event of a critical malfunction of the instrument, shorten the flight as soon as possible or, if necessary, separate from the instrument. The instrument may display false information, shut down, or malfunction at any time. It is essential that the flight can continue safely without using the information provided by the instrument. The information provided by the instrument should be considered as a mere aid to flying and should not be crucial to its smooth operation or safety. Incorrect or inaccurate data may result either from the system's inherent imprecision or sensor inaccuracies (e.g., GPS accuracy, pressure sensor, or terrain database data) or from software bugs. The ability to fly safely without relying on this information is essential, highlighting the importance of not considering this equipment as infallible or the sole source of navigation and decision-making. It is the pilot's responsibility to prepare the flight with information from official sources. For example, the airspace alert function is only a piloting aid, and the pilot remains solely responsible in case of violations.

We recommend using two instruments of different designs in flight to benefit from information redundancy.

Use only accessories and spare parts provided by Syride. Contact Syride support immediately if you have any doubts about the use or proper functioning of the instrument.

**Storage and Handling**:&#x20;

The instrument should be stored in an environment that is neither too hot nor too cold. Avoid exposure to temperatures above 40°C or below -10°C, especially by leaving it in direct sunlight or in a car trunk in the sun. Do not open the instrument, as this voids the warranty. If it comes into contact with water, wait at least 24 hours before attempting to restart the instrument and contact Syride support.

**Updates and Emergency Procedures**:&#x20;

Regularly install software updates to maintain the instrument's effectiveness. Prepare and familiarize yourself with emergency procedures for potential failures or critical situations in flight (emergency landing, rapid descent, flight without instruments, fire).

**Data Loss:**&#x20;

Data loss on the instrument (e.g., flights, settings, navigation route, beacons…) or on the online flight log (user profile, live, recorded flights…) is always possible. The user should be aware of this and take necessary steps to have an external backup other than those provided by Syride. Syride is not responsible for the consequences of this loss.

**Risks and Consequences of Improper Use**:&#x20;

Incorrect use or failure to follow these instructions may result in serious, potentially fatal accidents. Syride, its distributors, or resellers accept no liability for direct or indirect damages resulting from misuse.

**Battery**:&#x20;

This product uses a lithium-ion battery. Avoid exposing it to temperatures above 40°C (120°F). For battery longevity and maintenance, store it at approximately 70% capacity and perform a charge/discharge cycle every 6 months. Use a suitable charger and the cable provided with the instrument. Batteries can pose fire risks, toxic gas emissions, burns, and explosions. Negligent maintenance may increase the risk of failure. A full check of the instrument by Syride and battery replacement is recommended at least every 5 years. If there is a leak and contact with the liquid escaping from the battery, wash thoroughly with water and consult a physician immediately. For safety reasons and to prolong battery life, charging can only be done within an ambient temperature range. Temperatures: standard operation: 0°C (32°F) to +45°C (113°F); short-term storage: -20°C (-4°F) to 60°C (140°F); long-term storage -20°C (-4°F) to 25°C (77°F). Do not extract or attempt to extract the battery without Syride's approval. There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with an incorrect one. In case of a battery problem, please contact Syride support immediately.

**Notice to Users Regarding Collection and Disposal of Used Batteries and Electrical and Electronic Devices**:&#x20;

THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY AND ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT CONTAINED IN THIS PRODUCT CANNOT BE ADDED TO HOUSEHOLD WASTE.&#x20;

# Foreword

Welcome in the community of Syriders! Your NAV is an extra light instrument with the most recent technologies, which will able you to improve yourself and guide your improvements. You will also be able to build a unique and highly detailed online flight book. Your practice of paragliding is going to take a new dimension with the NAV!

# I.	Setup the SYS PC Tool

1\.        Download the lastest version of the SYS PC Tool by checking the following webpage: <http://www.syride.com/en/logiciel>

2. Follow the instructions to install it on your computer.&#x20;

3. Once installed, an icon shows in the task bar. It detects when your instrument is connected.&#x20;

# II.	Place the instrument

1\.        Syride suggests to place your instrument on the risers. 2 velcros ables you to place it on any existing riser. Take care not to « lock » your rope or pulley accelerator.This position ables you to manipulate the instrument while flying without releasing the brakes.                                                           <mark style="color:red;">**We recommend you to insert a protection between the velcro and your riser in order to avoid the abrasion of it.**</mark>&#x20;

2. Velcros also allow placing the instrument on a cockpit,on thigh, (with extension) or on the wrist.&#x20;

# III.	Recharging the battery

1. Simply connect your instrument with the USB cable to a computer. A red led shows the right loading of the device.&#x20;

2. Your instrument will display “Charging…” and the percentage of charge. To complete, a charge requires 2 hours.&#x20;

3. Disconnect USB to stop the charge. Your instrument has a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect.&#x20;

1\.        Screens #1 to #4 shows the informations you previously choosed.                                                          If your device do not receive a GPS signal strong enough, **NO GPS** will appear.&#x20;

4. Screen #5 (MAP screen) displays on the whole LCD area. You can see:&#x20;

* Your current position and heading on the middle of the screen.
* The topography grayscaled (if previously uploaded to the instrument).
* Airspaces (if previously uploaded to the instrument).
* Your GPS trace for the last 10 minutes.
* Waypoints and optimized navigation route (if a route is loaded).

&#x20;Pressing the middle button changes the zoom level.&#x20;

# VII.	Configure your device

1. Push the central button to start your instrument.&#x20;

2. Go to screen #9 with left and right buttons, and confirm by clicking on central button. The number of the screen is displayed on the top right of it.&#x20;

3. The first screen shows some informations about your instrument. A long push **on the central button will trigger a manual recording of a new flight trace**.&#x20;

4. Next screen allows you to set the sound volume.&#x20;

6. The next screen enables to activate the “thermal sniffer” function. The instrument will produce a specific bip when you fly in an area which do not go up (<0.1m/s) or down (>0.2m/s). This indicates that you fly either in a zone near a thermal or at the beginning of the thermal cycle.&#x20;
7. You can turn ON or OFF the backlight of your instrument on the next screen.                            **Warning: backlight reduces the instrument’s autonomy (-30%)**.&#x20;

8. The next screen enables to turn ON or OFF the alarm when you enter in a controlled airspace.&#x20;
9. The altitude screen enables to select either the altitude given by the GPS (by default) or a pressure altitude that will be manually settled.&#x20;

# IX.	Customize your screens and vario sound

**With NAV, you can fully customize screens 1 to 4, as well your vario sound!**

&#x20;To customize your screen (tutorial video <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3lfZWiS13M>):

1\)      Go to: <http://www.syride.com/en/ssctool/Nav>

2\)      Customize your screen by selecting an item with is font size and units and then drag and drop it to the screen.

3\)      Download the config file to your computer.

4\)      Turn-on your instrument and connect it to your computer.

5\)      On SYS PC Tool, click on ***“Send a file to my Instrument”** icon.*

6\)      Select the config file you just downloaded before and disconnect your instrument, done.&#x20;

# X.	Height above ground

The NAV is able to tell you how high from the ground you are. Thanks to topography data recorded by the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission realized in 2000 by Endeavour space shuttle (see <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuttle_Radar_Topography_Mission>).

<mark style="color:red;">**From the Nav V3, the worldwide topography is already embedded in the instrument.**</mark>

&#x20;For the older versions of the Nav, here is the process to send the topography data into your instrument:

&#x20;1\)      You must go to our dedicated webpage: <https://www.syride.com/en/topography>

2\)      Then move the red rectangle to your selected fly area, and download the data.

3\)      Turn on and connect your NAV with the USB cable.

4\)      Then go in the SYS PC Tool, and click on the **“Send a file to my instrument”** icon, and select the file you previously downloaded.

5\)      Wait until the end ot the file upload and restart your instrument.&#x20;

Caution, height above the ground has a precision of ±20m, plus the GPS precision (a few meters).&#x20;

<mark style="color:red;">**To display your height above ground, this information must be included in your screen configuration (see previous chapter) and you need GPS reception.**</mark>


# XI.	Locate airspaces

To avoid an airspace violation, you can upload a database of airspaces with an OpenAir file format to your instrument.

Here are some tips regarding airspaces:

\-         Airspaces are regularly modified (about once per month). We recommend you to check the **version of file** you are using and keep updated.

\-         Knowledge of **aeronautic rules** as well as **preparing your flight** are essential for your safety, and for an easy understanding of what your instrument is showing.

\-         **Temporary forbidden areas** can exist. They are signaled through a NOTAM (Notice To Airmen) or Sup AIP. They’re usually available on your government website.

\-         Each country has its own rules, especially for **VFR** flights. Take note of local rules before taking-off.

\-         Even if your instrument is able to handle thousands of airspaces, we highly recommend you to fine-tune your OpenAir file. Editing the file can be done with any raw text reader software. Fine-tuning the openair file can increase your instrument’s autonomy, and can ease the reading of the MAP screen.&#x20;

In order to upload airspaces to your Nav :

1\)      Go to the webpage <https://www.syride.com/en/airspace>

2\)      Syride's online tool provides airspace databases in Open Air format by country. Download the file you want to your computer.

3\)      Turn on and plug your Nav into the USB port of your computer.

4\)      On the SYS PC Tool, click on the icon **«&#x20;*****Send a file to my instrument*****&#x20;»**.

5\)      Select the OpenAir file you previously downloaded.&#x20;

To locate airspaces, you have 2 options:

\-         The MAP screen will show you the airspace borders.

\-         Indicators are available on the SSCTool, like name, horizontal and vertical distance to the nearest airspace.

&#x20;There are 2 visual warnings with a siren that informs you are near an airspace:&#x20;

**PRE VIOLATION** blinks on top of the screen when the distance (vertical or horizontal) to the nearest airspace is within the predefined VAS and HAS values.&#x20;

**Both PRE-VIOLATION and VIOLATION warnings emit a siren during a few seconds. If you loose the GPS signal, then the siren will run again when getting the GPS fix back.**


# XII.	Navigation

To create a navigation route, the easiest way is to use our online **« Route maker »** tool. Simple, quick and efficient, it ables you to build a route in a few secondes.

To build a route with the **« Route maker »**:

1. Go to <http://www.syride.com/en/route>
2. Build your route in a few clicks and then download it to your computer.&#x20;

3. Turn-on your Nav and connect it to your computer.
4. On the SYS PC Tool, click the « *Send a file to my instrument »* icon.&#x20;

5. Select the route file you’ve downloaded before.
6. To activate the route in your instrument, go on the the **Navigation menu** in the Nav, then **« Load a route »**.                                                                                                                                                                   The route will show on the MAP screen. <mark style="color:red;">**Think about adding the indicators you wish to use**</mark> (e.g. *Waypoint information*) to your screen configuration **(cf IX. Customize your screens)**.
7. To skip a waypoint without reaching it, you can push the central button until the sound signal.&#x20;

You can build a route from your instrument as well:

1\)      You first need to have some waypoints in your instrument. Create a waypoint on the Nav, with menu **“Navigation”** (screen 7), then **“Create waypoint”.** The instrument will ask for a waypoint name, GPS coordinate, and altitude (optional).                                                                                                                   If you already have a waypoint file, you can upload it to your instrument with the SYS PC Tool (**« Send a file to my instrument »** icon). The SYS PC Tool only accept **OziExplorer** file format.&#x20;

2\)      Then from the Nav, go to the **"Navigation menu"**, then **« Create route »:**

\-         First, name your route.

\-         When selecting the first waypoint, you can choose between 3 modes: **« Waypoint »** (a simple waypoint), **« START IN »** and **« START OUT »** where a start time must be given.

\-         When selecting the waypoint, you can setup a radius (set to 400m by default, according to FAI rules), as well as a minimum altitude.

\-         Add several waypoints if needed.

\-         You can select a **« GOAL CYLINDER »** or a **« GOAL LINE »** for the last waypoint.

\-         Or select **« END ROUTE »** if you want to end your route with a simple waypoint.


# XIII.	Display and delete a flight

1. Go to screen #8 and press the central button to enter the flights list.&#x20;

2. You will see here every recorded flights, with some information about this flight.&#x20;

3. To delete a flight, press the central button and confirm your action when you’re asked to.&#x20;

4. Come back to the main flight screens by pushing on “BACK”.


# XIV.	Warnings and reset

If this happens, be sure the instrument’s memory is not full and check the battery is charged enough.&#x20;

To protect from flights corruption, your instrument will automatically stop recording the flight if the battery is too low, or if memory is almost full. This is indicated when the plane icon on the top left of the screen is blinking with a cross over it.&#x20;

If the G-Meter exceeds the value selected in “Configure my instrument” menu of SYS PC TOOL (2,5 g is the default value), a highly noisy sound will activate **(even if the sound is turned-off)**.&#x20;

If ever your instrument would stuck (unresponsive to buttons), plug the device to your computer with the USB cable and press the reset button with a needle in the hole on the back of the instrument (keeping the USB plugged).&#x20;

# XV.	Transfer your flights

1. Be sure you’ve installed the SYS-PC-Tool software on your computer                                                                (<https://www.syride.com/en/software>)&#x20;

2. Turn on and connect your instrument with the USB cable.&#x20;
3. Click on ***Account configuration*** icon.&#x20;

4. The IGC/GPX and KML files are systematically duplicated on your computer.                                      To use the advanced flight analyzer on syride.com, you must enter your email and  password of your Syride account  (create one on <http://www.syride.com>)                                                                 Make sure "Use the advanced logbook from Syride.com” is selected to upload your flights and click “OK”.&#x20;

5. Press the “Download recorded flights” icon, and your flights will be sent from the instrument to your computer and the online flight book. You can have access to the files on your computer by clicking on File/open local directory.&#x20;

6. You can modify your flight information (e.g. name, used glide, take off site and the type of flight) by clicking on the red pen and validate your modification with the green arrow.&#x20;

7. To watch your track, click on the picture.&#x20;
8. You can make your flight invisible for the Syride community by clicking on the eye icon on the top right. It will stay on your profile but the Syride users won’t be able to see it. &#x20;
9. You can look at your personal evolution on the flight page through location and time. You can also compare your stats and performances to the other riders.&#x20;

# XVI.     Parameters

Here is a list of parameters preprogrammed in your instrument in order to improve its use and autonomy:

* Flights <mark style="color:red;">**less than a minute**</mark> will be automatically deleted by the SYS PC Tool.
* When flying, your instrument will automatically stop recording the flight if **neither a ground speed or a vario** is detected.
* Your instrument will automatically turn OFF if a <mark style="color:red;">**20 minutes**</mark> inactivity is detected, unless you’re flying.
* **The NAV v3** is able to record <mark style="color:red;">**1500h of flights**</mark>.
* **The NAV v3** is able to record <mark style="color:red;">**25 000 waypoints**</mark>.
* **G-Meter** alarm is set to <mark style="color:red;">**2,5 g**</mark> by default.
* Time and date setup is thanks to the GPS (to get the GMT) and your computer (to apply the timezone).


# XVII.	Suggestion of use

* <mark style="color:red;">**We suggest you to turn-on your instrument while preparing your flight in order to be sure you get the GPS fix before starting your flight.**</mark>
* Use the strap <mark style="color:red;">**to secure**</mark> your instrument while flying.
* Electromagnetic perturbations from VHF antennas can disturb GPS signal.
* If the SYS'NAV is very hot and you fly in very cold air, **fog** can appear on the screen. It will dissipate within minutes.
* Only use the **backlight** if required. Otherwise the autonomy will decrease significantly (30%).
* A **Factory Reset** from SYS PC Tool (Configure my instrument ![](/files/hh8jdyHfUrOM7gBvhWmL) Repair ![](/files/0RCa1PdzpUknz1CLOium) Factory reset) ables you to get your instrument back to default state (every recorded flight will be deleted).
* When you connect your instrument to a USB charger, the battery will start charging, even if the instrument is turned-off.


# Important Warnings and Safety Instructions

Free flight and ultralight flying are potentially dangerous activities that can lead to serious injury, paralysis, or even death. When flying, you must be fully aware of the risks involved.

Read and follow these safety instructions carefully before using your Syride instrument. Failure to do so may compromise your safety and nullify your right to any claim in case of an incident.

Proper Use and Responsibilities: Syride instruments are intended for use in free flight and ultralight flying. Any other use is the responsibility of the user, exempting Syride, its distributors, or resellers from any liability, claim, or demand for compensation for misuse. All pilots must hold the required license or certification in their country and have adequate liability insurance to fly. Ensure that you have the skills and knowledge necessary to fly and use the instrument. Only fly if you are physically and mentally fit. The instrument should only be used by trained and competent individuals in compliance with local and national regulations.

**Preparation and Maintenance**:&#x20;

Check the proper functioning of the instrument before each flight. Never fly with damaged or improperly positioned equipment. Ensure that the weather conditions are appropriate for your level of piloting. NEVER fly in dangerous conditions (e.g., strong winds, storms, fog, rain, snow, turbulent conditions, or clouds). Use only approved equipment (wing, harness, and rescue parachute) and appropriate protective gear (e.g., helmet...).

Make sure the product is securely positioned before takeoff to avoid loss during flight. Syride cannot be held responsible for the loss and consequences of the instrument falling to the ground. Syride is also not responsible for the instrument's theft or damage during use (e.g., water exposure, shocks, crushing during transport, etc.).

**In-Flight Safety and Responsibilities**:&#x20;

Do not use the instrument for acrobatic flights, flights without visibility, or night flights. Always pay close attention to the weather before takeoff, your surroundings, and the terrain you will be flying over to avoid collisions. If in doubt, do not fly, and always allow a large safety margin in your decisions. In the event of a critical malfunction of the instrument, shorten the flight as soon as possible or, if necessary, separate from the instrument. The instrument may display false information, shut down, or malfunction at any time. It is essential that the flight can continue safely without using the information provided by the instrument. The information provided by the instrument should be considered as a mere aid to flying and should not be crucial to its smooth operation or safety. Incorrect or inaccurate data may result either from the system's inherent imprecision or sensor inaccuracies (e.g., GPS accuracy, pressure sensor, or terrain database data) or from software bugs. The ability to fly safely without relying on this information is essential, highlighting the importance of not considering this equipment as infallible or the sole source of navigation and decision-making. It is the pilot's responsibility to prepare the flight with information from official sources. For example, the airspace alert function is only a piloting aid, and the pilot remains solely responsible in case of violations.

We recommend using two instruments of different designs in flight to benefit from information redundancy.

Use only accessories and spare parts provided by Syride. Contact Syride support immediately if you have any doubts about the use or proper functioning of the instrument.

**Storage and Handling**:&#x20;

The instrument should be stored in an environment that is neither too hot nor too cold. Avoid exposure to temperatures above 40°C or below -10°C, especially by leaving it in direct sunlight or in a car trunk in the sun. Do not open the instrument, as this voids the warranty. If it comes into contact with water, wait at least 24 hours before attempting to restart the instrument and contact Syride support.

**Updates and Emergency Procedures**:&#x20;

Regularly install software updates to maintain the instrument's effectiveness. Prepare and familiarize yourself with emergency procedures for potential failures or critical situations in flight (emergency landing, rapid descent, flight without instruments, fire).

**Data Loss:**&#x20;

Data loss on the instrument (e.g., flights, settings, navigation route, beacons…) or on the online flight log (user profile, live, recorded flights…) is always possible. The user should be aware of this and take necessary steps to have an external backup other than those provided by Syride. Syride is not responsible for the consequences of this loss.

**Risks and Consequences of Improper Use**:&#x20;

Incorrect use or failure to follow these instructions may result in serious, potentially fatal accidents. Syride, its distributors, or resellers accept no liability for direct or indirect damages resulting from misuse.

**Battery**:&#x20;

This product uses a lithium-ion battery. Avoid exposing it to temperatures above 40°C (120°F). For battery longevity and maintenance, store it at approximately 70% capacity and perform a charge/discharge cycle every 6 months. Use a suitable charger and the cable provided with the instrument. Batteries can pose fire risks, toxic gas emissions, burns, and explosions. Negligent maintenance may increase the risk of failure. A full check of the instrument by Syride and battery replacement is recommended at least every 5 years. If there is a leak and contact with the liquid escaping from the battery, wash thoroughly with water and consult a physician immediately. For safety reasons and to prolong battery life, charging can only be done within an ambient temperature range. Temperatures: standard operation: 0°C (32°F) to +45°C (113°F); short-term storage: -20°C (-4°F) to 60°C (140°F); long-term storage -20°C (-4°F) to 25°C (77°F). Do not extract or attempt to extract the battery without Syride's approval. There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with an incorrect one. In case of a battery problem, please contact Syride support immediately.

**Notice to Users Regarding Collection and Disposal of Used Batteries and Electrical and Electronic Devices**:&#x20;

THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY AND ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT CONTAINED IN THIS PRODUCT CANNOT BE ADDED TO HOUSEHOLD WASTE.&#x20;

# Foreword

Welcome to Syride community! You are maybe owning the best instrument of Syride range! Your Evolution belongs to a new generation of flying instrument, we call it a “flight computer”.

Let’s move on and stop reading this boring preamble! If you want to take benefit of all the features of your instrument, read this user manual!

# I.	Setup Syride communication software

This software is strongly suggested. It is called the « SYS PC Tool », and enables you to update your instrument, fine-tune the settings, download your flights (and optionnaly send them to Syride online flightbook), upload routes, waypoints, etc…

Please be aware that the Evolution is also compatible with GPSDump software (please make sure to use the latest version available on <http://www.gpsdump.no/> ).

&#x20;3\.      Once installed, an icon shows in the task bar. It detects when your instrument is connected.

# II.	Turn ON and OFF the flight computer

It is important to know that compared to other displays, the one the SYS’Evolution is using does not require any power to keep an image displayed. This is why when you received it, some information may already be displayed on the screen!

1. To turn ON your flight computer, press the START button once. <mark style="color:red;">**A small red light turns-on in the eye of the eagle to indicate that the instrument is ON**</mark>.

The boot sequence lasts a few seconds to initialize all the sensors. The "**GPS booster**" is then activated to minimize the time of reception of the GPS signal. As soon as the reception is sufficient, the instrument will automatically switch to the flight screen.

2. The instrument will be automatically turned OFF after **20 minutes** of inactivity (no ground speed nor vario). To manually turn it OFF, press the START button during 2 seconds, until the display wipes out.

# III.	Charge the battery

1. In order to charge the instrument, just use any mini-USB cable that you could connect to any power supply (computer, phone charger, cigarette lighter..). A red light on the battery icon indicates the flight computer is charging. A full charge from an empty battery takes up to 8 hours. It is NOT recommended to charge through a USB hub device.

2. If the instrument is connected to a computer a screen symbolizes it. You can disconnect it at any time.
3. In running mod, draw a “slide-down” movement on the screen with your finger in order to display the top banner during a few seconds.

4. Disconnect the instrument to stop charging it. The Li-ion battery isn’t affected by a memory effect.


# IV.	Place the instrument in flight

1\.      Syride suggest to place the Evolution on a cockpit.                                                                         Two adhesive velcro bands are included and can be sticked on the back of the instrument.                                                                                       <mark style="color:red;">**Please take care not to obstruct the Reboot hole with the velcro.**</mark>

2. The size of the flight computer permits to place it on a ventral rescue parachute.

3. You can secure the Evolution using the lanyard.
4. For more comfort, a neoprene protection housing with velcros is sold separately.

# V.	General ergonomics

While the instrument is running, the whole display is dedicated to flight items. In order to make the menus appear, draw a slide-down or slide-up movement with your finger, By applying a slight pressure on the screen:

* The top banner appears during a few seconds by sliding down:&#x20;

For your information:

\-       <mark style="color:red;">**A slight pressure must be applied to use the Evolution touchscreen**</mark>. This technology allows to use  this instrument with gloves,

\-       The take-off is automatically detected and starts the log. The flight time in the top banner appears after take-off,

\-       The touch-screen is designed to be used with or without gloves,

\-       Any flight item that requires GPS needs at least 3 satellites. Otherwise, a “NO GPS” message may show up instead of the item,

\-      <mark style="color:red;">**The first GPS fix can take several minutes in case of long power-off or in case of significant change in position. Any first GPS fix should be done outside. We recommend you to turn ON the instrument a few minutes before taking-off**</mark>,

\-       The temperature only indicates the temperature of the electronics. This cannot be used as a reference for ambient temperature,

\-       A 3.5mm jack socket is available on the right side of the device. Plugging a headset automatically transfers any sound from the speaker to the headset (and cuts-off the speaker).

# VIII.	Parameters : Wi-Fi and Bluetooth setup

About connectivity:

\-       Online connectivity brings new features: live tracking, real time wind reports, SMS messaging… (for more info, please read chapter “Parameters: Online Functions”).

\-       IMPORTANT: for bluetooth connection to work properly with your phone, you must enable both **bluetooth** AND **bluetooth Internet connection sharing** (“bluetooth tethering” on some phones): see [this tutorial video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR3RYwWmFhQ).

\-       Whereas Wifi significantly reduces battery life and therefore should only be used on the ground, **bluetooth is highly energy efficient and should be the connectivity used in flight.**\
(standby weather forecast only use Wifi to update its data)

\-       After your flight, if you have filled your credentials in the Evolution (Parameters > Advanced Parameters > Pilot credentials), the flight will automatically be uploaded to your Syride online profile.

\-       WIFI with WEP keys are currently not supported by the Evolution (most wifi networks use WPA/WPA2 keys nowadays).

\-       Wifi and bluetooth cannot be used simultaneously. Activating bluetooth will disable the wifi and vice versa.

\-       On most phones, you will have to be on a specific page to be visible by other devices (including the Evolution) on bluetooth (that’s usually the bluetooth scan page).


# IX.	Parameters : online functions

About the standby mode weather station:

This screen, available in stand-by mode, displays weather forecasts updated on a regular basis. Wifi must be set up to use this feature.&#x20;

\-       The weather station show data using your last GPS position.

\-       Syride use its subscription to openweathermap.org to download weather forecasts.

\-       Weather forecasts only use energy to update. Display doesn’t use any energy.

\-       Customization of this screen will come at a later stage.&#x20;

About emergency messages:

The emergency icon only appears if:

\-       Your instrument is connected with your smartphone and has Internet access.

\-       You have a Syride account on [www.syride.com](http://www.syride.com) and typed your credentials in the instrument (See chapter XIII).

\-       You have setup the messages and a list of recipients on the “My account” page on Syride.com&#x20;

You are entitled to a free 10 SMS credit over a rolling 30 days period (remaining credits can be checked on “My account” page on Syride.com).

An SMS will be sent (if data connection is available) as soon as you press an emergency button. You can add shortcuts on your flight screens for a quicker access to this function.&#x20;

# X.	Parameters : GNSS setup

Enabling GNSS is mandatory for track recording and displaying a lot of items (like the Route, the drift, GPS altitude, etc…). Your current GPS position is displayed in the status area on the bottom of the page.&#x20;

Advanced settings let you know the signal strength of each satellite. The gray bars show the signals received by the Evolution but not used for the calculation. The black bars show a signal used to locate you.&#x20;

Choose the GNSS you want to use with the Evolution. At most 3 can be activated simultaneously: **GPS**: Navstar (USA), **GAL**: Galileo (European), **BEI**: Beidou (Chinese), **QZS**: Quasi-Zenith Satellite (Japanese), **GLO**: Glonass (Russian).                                                                                                                                           The satellite-based augmentation ([SBAS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNSS_augmentation)) of the Evolution GNSS chip is active by default.


# XI.	Parameters : flightbook

On this page, you will find all information about your flights. In case you enabled the synchronisation with Syride online flightbook, removing a flight from the instrument will not remove it from the website.&#x20;

# XII.	Parameters : advanced parameters (instrument)

About the « reset to factory defaults » button:                                                                                                   The first step after a reset to factory defaults consists in calibrating the touchscreen. This is done by clicking on each of the 5 crosses. Then comes the calibration of the magnetometer. This is done by turning the instrument in all possible directions (360° vertically and horizontally). Click anywhere on the screen once done.                           This step is important because it will highly influence the precision of the magnetometer. # XIII.	Navigation : GOTO menu

This feature allows the pilot to easily create a one-waypoint route. The waypoints are ordered by distance from the current position. Please note that activating a GOTO waypoint instantly stops the previous route, if ever one was activated.&#x20;

Notes about navigation routes:

\-       Creating a route is only possible if at least 1 waypoint is available in the instrument.

\-       Creating a waypoint requires a name, its GPS coordinates, and its altitude. The altitude is not mandatory, but is required to display the “glide ratio to waypoint” item.

If you already have a waypoints file, it is possible to send this file with the SYS PC Tool by clicking the “**Send a file to the instrument**” icon.&#x20;

\-       Waypoint files should be in Oziexplorer or CompeGPS .wpt format.

\-       Using [GPSDump software](http://www.gpsdump.no/) (above versions 5.28 for PC, 0.52 for Mac and 0.24 for Linux) is also an alternative solution. GPSDump supports more waypoints file formats, and handles waypoints more efficiently. Please note that GPSDump will not erase existing waypoints in the instruments whereas SYS PC Tool will.

\-       To skip a waypoint before reaching it, and switch to the next one, you can click one the “**Switch to the next waypoint**” icon in the navigation menu (only visible when a route is active).&#x20;

\-       To be able to follow your route, you must insert dedicated items, such as “**waypoint information**” in your screen configuration file (see “Customize the flight screen and vario”).&#x20;

About the online “Route Maker” tool:

Out of competition, the simplest way to create a route or a list of waypoints is to use our online tool, called « ***Route maker*** ». Simple, fast and efficient, you can create a route in a few minutes.

To build a route with the online tool « ***Route maker*** » :

1. Go to the webpage <http://www.syride.com/fr/route> or click on the Syride Tools menu in SYS PC TOOL *.*
2. This online tool allows to define waypoints, cylinders… When your route is ready, click on the **Download the route file** button to save it on your computer, or on the **Directly upload the route to your instrument** button to send it to your instrument which should be connected and turned on).&#x20;

Please note that only the first method will allow you to keep a backup of your route file on your computer. Direct upload might not be available on all Operating System and browsers.&#x20;

3. If you’ve downloaded the route file to your computer, turn on your Evolution and connect it to your computer, then click on the “**Send a file to the instrument**” icon in SYS PC TOOL&#x20;

Here are the steps to create a route in the instrument:

&#x20;First you will have to give your route a name, and define if it is a Competition route or not. This choice is important as it will allow specific waypoint types for competition, such as ESS, SSS, Goal…&#x20;

For a competition route, you will be asked the kind of task. This choice will impact the start validation conditions.&#x20;

Here are the waypoint types available in competition mode:

&#x20;**Take-off**: this waypoint is optionnal and can only be set as the first waypoint of the route. It’s not used for navigation, but allows to display the full length of the task.

&#x20;**Start of Speed Section (SSS)**: this waypoint is mandatory in a competition route creation. It can be validated by entering it (enter) or exiting it (exit). A start time must be defined.

&#x20;\-       SSS in a **race to goal** task: with an exit start, if the pilot is inside the cylinder at the start time, the start is validated, and the Evolution switch the navigation to the next waypoint. With an enter start, if the pilot is inside the cylinder at the start time, the waypoint will only be validated upon cylinder entry crossing after the start time. In both cases, the competition time will begin as of the start time (SSS validated or not).

&#x20;\-       SSS in an **elapsed time** task: unlike in race to goal tasks, the competition time will only start after crossing the start cylinder (enter or exit direction) after the start time. It is possible to cross as many times as desired the start cylinder, the competition time being reset each time you cross it, as long as you haven’t validated the next waypoint.

&#x20;\-       SSS in **race to goal with multiple starts** tasks: in addition to classic race to goal tasks information, you will have to enter the number of gates and the time intervals between these gates. Here’s an example of tasks using multiple starts: a task with 5 starts at 13:00 / 13:20 / 13:40 / 14:00 / 14:20 should be input with a 13:00 start time, 5 gates with 20 minutes interval. The time taken will be that of the start before your last crossing of the waypoint. If I cross the SSS cylinder at 13:25, the start will be 13:20 and your competition time will be 5min. If you cross the start again at 13:41, your competition time will be 1min.&#x20;

**End Speed Section (ESS)**: ESS waypoint is only available after a SSS has been put in the route. It defines when your competition time ends. However, the task will only be finished if you make it to the goal.                                                                                                                                                                         **Please note: you will not be able to end your competition route without defining an ESS**.

**Conical End Speed Section (ESS)**: same as classic ESS except that you will have to enter the cone’s incline instead of its radius (PWC rules define a 0.4 incline by default).

**Goal cylinder**: this is the last waypoint to put in a route. It’s optional.

**Goal line**: same as before, the goal line is a finish line (displayed as half a circle). The default virtual goal line (according to PWC rules) extends to 100m each side of the GPS goal coordinates, to a total of 200 m, and is perpendicular to the line between the goal point and the previous turnpoint coordinates. The minimum length of the line is 50m.&#x20;

# XVII.	Navigation : airspaces menu

When approaching an airspace, an audible and visual alarm appears : « pre-violation + airspace name » appears on the bottom of the. If you enter this airspace, a new alarm triggers and a message « violation + airspace name » displays.

This menu allows the pilot to enable or disable an airspace alarm. A disabled airspace will be ignored in all airspace-related items, including the MAP item and audio warnings.&#x20;

Here’s how to update airspaces in the Evolution:

1\)    Go to this page : <https://www.syride.com/en/airspace> or click on the **Syride Tools** menu in SYS PC TOOL

2\)    Select the countries you need from Syride online tool, then download the OpenAir file to your computer.

3\)    Turn-on and connect your Evolution to your computer.

4\)    On the SYS PC Tool, click on the “**Send a file to the instrument**” icon.

5\)    Select the previously downloaded OpenAir file.&#x20;

A few useful tips and informations about airspaces:

&#x20;\-      **The data provided in the airspace files that you can download from Syride are not official**, and you should not use your Evolution as a main navigation reference. Please refer to the official sources of aeronautical information (for example: <http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/> for France). These files are usually provided free of charge by the federations, the information they contain is not guaranteed and we shall not be liable for the consequences of their uses.

&#x20;\-       We advise you to check the **version of the file** you intend to load. Airspace evolves on regular basis. In addition, **zones can change class depending on the time of the year and time of day** and may not be visible on the instrument (for example: Chambery TMA which passes from a class D to a class E).

&#x20;\-       A knowledge of **aeronautical rules** an a **flight briefing** are mandatory to correctly use the information given by the instrument.&#x20;

\-       Some **temporary forbidden zones** may exist. They are signaled by NOTAM (notice to Airmen) and cannot be handled by the instrument.

&#x20;\-       **In France, VFR flights without radio contact are limited to flight level 115** (about 3450 m). It is allowed to fly above this limit in zones called class E LTA (Vanoise, Bauges, Mont Blanc…). **You should consult each countries regulation to learn about local rules**.

&#x20;\-       You can **add your own airspace files**, as long as they respect the Openair format.

&#x20;\-       For ease of calculation and readability, **airspaces that are 5000ft above your current altitude will not be listed in the menu nor displayed on the 3D and map**. The refresh of the list is done every 2 minutes.

&#x20;\-       **Airspaces with more than 150 polygon points** can not be technically represented on the 3D view.

&#x20;\-       **Airspaces that are based on altitude above ground** (AGL) can have a different representation than reality on the 3D view. However, violation alarms will be triggered correctly.


# XVIII.	Advanced setup (software)

Connect your Evolution to the SYS PC Tool in order to get access to advanced options. From these advanced options, you can, for example:

\-       Change the averaging time of the vario.

\-       Change the G-force alarm threshold value

\-       Change airspace pre-violation vertical and horizontal distances.

&#x20;To access these advanced parameters :

1\)     Turn-on and connect your Evolution to your computer.

2\)     On the SYS PC Tool software, click on the “Parameters” icon to open the setting window.

3\)     Modify any value.

4\)     Click on « **Send parameters** ».
